HVAC Certification Exam Guide Tips and Books For Charlotte Providers

There are a number of exams that HVAC technicians can take to certify their abilities. These exams basically fall into two categories – Entry level and advanced. The entry level exams are taken during the course of the education itself and are generally administered by the educational institution giving the course of instruction, while advanced level exams are usually taken either late in the instructional cycle or after finishing and are usually offered by various professional organizations.

Some of the advanced certification exams given are as follows: The Industry Competency Exam (ICE) offered by the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute, the Secondary Employment Ready Exam and Secondary Heat and Heat Plus exam offered by an organization called HVAC Excellence, the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute exam, and the North American Technical Excellence (NATE) exam.
Regardless of the exams being taken, there are usually a wide variety of study guides that allow you to prepare for these exams. These study guides are most often aimed at helping a student to pass a professional certification. These HVAC certification exam guides often include the following:

Sample Exams For Local Charlotte Tradesmen

These guides contain practice exams that allow a student to get the feel of what the questions will be like. In this way they can test out their knowledge in a realistic testing situation. This is well known to be a very good way to prepare for tests. Rather than a student hoping they have memorized and understand the material, they can actually see where their knowledge level is. They also get familiar with the format of the exams and generally get a sense of familiarity.

These sample exams have answer keys so that a student can actually check if they have answered correctly. After all, it wouldn’t do so much good to take a sample test unless you could see your scores. The student can take the test a number of times and actually gauge their improvement this way.

Study Strategies

This and other guides include study strategies to show students how to approach the exam. A large part of successful studying is simply knowing how to go about it. These guides often include study strategies that are designed to maximize the effectiveness of the student’s preparation, save them time, and give them an effective tool for mastering the exam material.

Score Improvement Methods

These exam guides often give students techniques specifically aimed at increasing test scores, rather than simply being test study approaches. These are techniques that come from an understanding of what these tests entail and how they are scored.

Some Books to Check Out

A good title to consider in and HVAC exam guide is the DeWALT HVAC Technician Certification Exam Guide 2nd Edition. This volume is by Norm Christopherson who is described as an “industry leader.” Apparently, he has taught HVAC technology on the collegiate level, gives lectures, and has published several books on the HVAC industry. The book contains all of the features mentioned above and more and claims to be the most thorough guide available. It is published by Dewalt and is reasonably priced – usually somewhere between $15 and $25, possibly less if you buy a used copy.

You can also check out Pal’s HVAC Technician Certification Exam Guide. This guide is published by Pal Publishing, Inc. The author is again Norm Christopherson. Not surprisingly, this also bills itself as the most complete guide in the field. While these claims should be taken with a grain of salt, this is probably a fairly comprehensive exam preparation book.

The Guide to Nate/INE Certification Exams (3rd Edition) by Robert Featherstone and Jesse Riojas is also a recommended guide. It pertains specifically to these two important exams and contains a long section explaining HVAC concepts followed by a practical guide containing over 2,400 practice questions and a number of practice tests.

Before taking your certification exams, make sure that you’re well prepared. Guides such as those mentioned can really give you an edge on the tests. They are readily available, so take advantage of them as a study resource.
